Leo, a small boy with warm light-brown skin and curly dark-brown hair, is thrilled to learn that a rescue ferret will soon come to live with him. Together with his grown-up, Aunt May, he clears a corner of the living room, lifts wires out of reach, blocks small gaps, and sets out a cozy bed, blankets, a litter box, food, water and a little blue collar with a bell. Then the ferret arrives from the rescue centre and starts exploring everything in sight.
Leo soon finds that ferrets are fast, curious and full of mischief, wriggling under chairs, poking into bags, climbing the curtains and squeezing behind the bookshelf. He and Aunt May build a playpen from cardboard boxes and tunnels, and she teaches him to watch closely and keep the ferret safe. When the ferret slips into a gap Leo cannot reach, the two work together to coax it out. Written by Jane MEADOW for young children preparing for a pet, this gentle tale can be read on Kids Tale Book.
