On a wide, sunny savanna, a large blue-grey elephant named Eldon often feels lonely despite his friendly nature. One morning, he discovers Tilly, a small tortoise with a mossy patterned shell and a straw hat with a red band. Tilly is slow but observant, while Eldon is big and fast but overlooks details. They quickly become a pair, with Tilly riding between Eldon's ears and guiding him to the watering hole while Eldon walks carefully to keep her safe.
At the crowded pool with no shade, Tilly studies the surroundings and asks Eldon to push fallen branches into the earth and gather broad leaves. Together they weave a leafy roof, creating a cool shadow over the water's edge. A giraffe, a zebra, and a family of rabbits soon come to rest, and the watering hole becomes a daily gathering place. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW explores friendship and cooperation, and can be read on Kids Tale Book.
