Sofia adores the ocean and never goes anywhere without her bright yellow rain jacket. On a special visit to a coastal nature center, carrying her canvas tote bag, she hopes to learn more about sea creatures. There she meets Ms. Carter, a ranger in a khaki uniform, who introduces her to Mabel, a gentle grey manatee with a whiskered snout, a wide paddle tail and pale scars on her back. When Sofia presses her hands to the glass, Mabel swims right up to her.
As Sofia learns that manatees move slowly and are easily hurt by fast boats and polluted water, her excitement turns into concern. She asks why boats hit them and listens carefully as Ms. Carter explains how speed in shallow sea-grass waters and trash in the ocean can harm these animals. Rather than staying worried, Sofia decides to act, using her notebook and paints to create a bright, friendly poster. Written by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL, this gentle tale of curiosity turning into quiet, practical action can be read on Masal İzle.
