Maya loves open spaces and adventure. One sunny morning, she puts on her yellow t-shirt, blue overall shorts, and red sneakers, packs her green backpack with a notebook and a snack, and sets off with her grandma, Rosa, to a big grassland. There, she spots a burrowing owl—a small sandy-brown bird with large round yellow eyes and long thin legs. Maya names him Pip and is captivated by his shy but curious ways.

Over the next days, Maya returns to the grassland to watch Pip. She sketches him in her notebook and observes how he flattens his feathers to hide, runs swiftly on his long legs, and leads her to another burrow where a second owl lives. Her delight turns to concern when she sees a big machine parked near the edge of the grassland, threatening to dig up the owls' underground homes. Maya feels a strong urge to protect her new friend. In this heartwarming tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL, readers learn about curiosity, empathy, and standing up for nature. The story can be read on Masal İzle.
