The Girl and the Lizard

Maya is a curious girl with warm brown skin and curly black hair who loves exploring her backyard with her satchel and nature notebook. One sunny morning near an old stone wall, she notices a brown-grey lizard with zigzag stripes and bright amber eyes, and she quickly sketches its pattern while wondering what kind of creature it might be.

She brings her discovery to Grandpa Leo, who wears a straw hat and olive shirt, and together they identify the lizard as a native skink. He explains what lizards need to thrive, and Maya records every detail before asking whether they can build a special place for it.
