On a small farm with a red barn, eight-year-old Mia lives with her family and has a deep love for animals. One sunny morning, her father shares news that a little horse has been rescued and needs care. The horse is shy and frightened, so Mia fills her canvas pouch with apple treats and promises to be gentle. When she first peeks over the paddock fence, the slender golden-tan horse with a creamy white mane flinches and backs away, his ears flicked back in fear. Remembering her father's advice that patience is key, Mia stops where she is and lets the horse see her.
Day after day, Mia returns to the paddock, moving slowly and speaking in a low, calm voice. She never rushes or makes loud noises. The little horse begins to watch her with curiosity, and one day he takes a step toward her. Soon Mia introduces a soft brush, grooming his shaggy coat, combing his mane and tail, and picking out his hooves while he stands still and relaxes. She offers treats from her flat hand, and the horse lips them gently from her palm. Each small step builds on the last, and the fearful animal slowly stops flinching when she touches him.
