Mira lives in a little house at the edge of a meadow, and every day after school she puts on her yellow rain boots and her straw hat with the red ribbon to watch the animals around her home. One morning she finds a notebook in her canvas satchel and draws a plan for a special place where she can observe wildlife without scaring it. With advice from Grandpa Jo, who reminds her that animals need quiet and patience, she builds a small hideout near the old oak tree from sticks, leaves and soft moss, with a tiny window, a flat stone seat and a sign that says 'Observatory.'
At first nothing comes, and Mira learns to wait and stay still. Gradually the meadow reveals its secrets: a ladybug, a butterfly, a squirrel burying a nut, and then Pip, a bold little sparrow with a cream chest, a black cap, one white feather and a tiny red thread tied around its leg. Later, at dusk, a shy hedgehog with a dry leaf stuck to its back snuffles through the grass looking for beetles. Mira records everything in her notebook and discovers that even a common sparrow has secrets if you look closely. This gentle tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL can be read on Masal İzle.
