The Fox and the Owl's Secret

A bright-eyed fox wearing a small blue scarf and a big bushy tail finds a folded leaf marked with scratchy writing he cannot read. Wanting to understand it, he visits a barn owl with a heart-shaped white face and round green spectacles, who reads the message aloud and agrees to help. Together they learn that the clues must be followed in order, and that patience matters as much as curiosity.

Their path takes them past mossy stumps, a hollow log and a tall oak, and brings them to Mama Squirrel in her yellow apron and her tiny daughter with a red bow, who knows the clues best of all. This calm woodland tale by Jane MEADOW follows reading, listening and working together, and can be read on Kids Tale Book. It suits picture-book and early-reader children, and adults reading aloud.
