Elio, a curious nine-year-old boy living in a small village at the foot of a great mountain, spends his days wondering what lies beyond it. One morning he climbs the lower slopes and meets Olive, a grey and white owl wearing tiny gold spectacles and carrying an ancient rolled map in her talons. Olive can read the old symbols and agrees to teach Elio how maps work, explaining that each line is like a sentence and each symbol a word.

Together they set out to find a forgotten mountain pathway, following clues such as a stone shaped like a sleeping bear and a trail hidden behind bushes. As they climb, Elio learns to interpret the map's signs, from wavy lines for streams to triangles for peaks. This gentle story by Ebru Mina TOMURCUK explores curiosity, courage and the value of learning, and can be read on Onlinemasal Com.Tr.
