Seven-year-old Sam, recognizable by his green rubber boots and red sun hat, spends his mornings exploring the big garden around his small house. One sunny day, he discovers a little toad with bumpy olive-green and brown skin and big golden eyes hiding under a bush. Crouching down quietly to greet it, Sam begins watching the toad daily, noting its hiding spots, how it catches bugs with a flick of its tongue, and what it needs to stay safe, all recorded in his little notebook.
When his mother explains that toads and other amphibians can dry out without safe, wet places, Sam looks at his mostly dry, sunny garden and worries about his bumpy friend. He decides to help by building a shady corner near a big tree, piling smooth stones into hiding spots, adding leaves and bark, and digging a small pool lined with old pond liner, complete with a flat stone and moss to keep the ground damp. Written by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL, this gentle tale can be read on Masal İzle.
