Leo cherishes the hour before sunset, when the sky softens to pink and a flock of starlings performs their aerial dance outside his window. With sketchbook and binoculars in hand, he is mesmerized by how the birds move as one, their glossy feathers shimmering with green and purple as they twist and turn like a giant ribbon. This daily spectacle becomes his favorite show, and he longs to uncover the secret behind their synchronized flight.
At school, Leo shares his drawings with Mrs. Hayes, who wears a silver bird brooch and smiles warmly. Inspired by the starlings' teamwork, she proposes that the class paint a mural of starlings, with each child contributing one bird. Leo is thrilled and brings his notebook to class, showing how the birds arrange themselves in spirals and waves. The project begins with excitement, but soon the children struggle to work together. Pip, a girl with ginger braids, rushes to paint the biggest bird and place it in the middle, causing chaos. Leo realizes that teamwork takes practice and patience. Through trial and error, the children learn to communicate and collaborate, just like the starlings. The story highlights the value of cooperation, patience, and listening to one another. The Boy and the Little Starling can be read on Masal İzle, written by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL.
