In The Boy and the Little Hedgehog, young Sam lives in a cozy house with a big green garden where he loves to explore and observe wildlife. One misty morning, he finds a tiny hedgehog with brown spines tipped with cream and little pink paws trying to get through the garden wall but unable to find a gap. Sam's mother explains that hedgehogs are shy, helpful creatures that eat slugs and beetles but need safe paths to travel and find food. Concerned for the hedgehog's safety, Sam decides to take action.
Sam visits his neighbor, Mrs. Green, and together they plan to cut small openings in garden walls so hedgehogs can move freely between gardens. With enthusiasm, Sam and his mother talk to other neighbors, explaining how small changes can make a big difference for wildlife. Some neighbors are initially unsure, but Sam's passion and Mrs. Green's support win them over. Soon, the community works together to create a network of safe passages and plant friendly bushes like lavender and thyme, which attract insects that hedgehogs eat.
