Sam is a seven-year-old who spends his mornings in the plain green backyard behind his small house, wearing his sky-blue t-shirt, mustard-yellow shorts and green rubber boots as he tends his flowers with a little red watering can. He wishes the yard held more life and colour than grass and a few bushes.
When a small orange butterfly with black edges and white spots visits but never lingers, Sam asks his mother what butterflies need. She explains they seek native flowers for nectar and leaves to rest on, so Sam learns about purple coneflowers, black-eyed Susans and butterfly weed, brings pots home and patiently digs, plants, waters and weeds. Written by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL, this gentle tale can be read on Masal İzle and suits young children and the adults reading with them.
