Eight-year-old Daniel lives on a farm with a red barn and a wide green field. Every morning he puts on his overalls and straw hat to explore outside. One spring, a pair of barn swallows with forked tails and glossy blue backs builds a mud nest under the barn eaves, and Daniel becomes their quiet, patient watcher. When his father says the leaky roof and loose boards need fixing, Daniel realizes the repairs will happen right where the swallows are nesting, putting the eggs and chicks at risk.
Instead of just worrying, Daniel draws a plan of the barn and suggests starting on the far side and saving the nesting eave for last. His mother listens carefully, his father agrees to work quietly near the nests, and Daniel takes on the job of bird watcher, calling out from a hay bale whether the swallows are calm. Along the way, he learns from his mother and the library that barn swallows migrate thousands of miles each year and still return to this same barn. This gentle story by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL can be read on Masal İzle and offers lessons about patience, planning, and empathy for animals.
