Leo, an eight-year-old boy living in a small town with wide green yards, spends every spring watching barn swallows return to build their mud nests under the eaves. With notebook and pencil in hand, he sketches their forked tails and rusty orange throats, observes how they snatch insects in midair and feed their young, and comes to think of them as little friends. When the swallows gather on the telephone wires one crisp fall morning and shrink into tiny specks, the yard feels empty and Leo wonders where they have gone.

His search leads him to the library, where large books explain that barn swallows travel thousands of miles each fall. Leo lays a sheet of paper on the floor and draws his town at the bottom, then traces the birds' route across rivers, mountains, oceans and deserts toward South America, adding small swallows and possible resting places along the way. This tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL follows a boy whose patient curiosity turns a backyard into a doorway to the wider world, and it can be read on Masal İzle.
