In a quiet part of the great green forest, Sammy the squirrel and Hugo the hedgehog are friends who meet to share what they find. Sammy wears a little blue neckerchief and carries a canvas satchel for treasures, and he loves climbing high in the trees. Hugo, with his spiky brown spines, round green spectacles and tiny tool belt, prefers to explore the ground, sniffing out mushrooms and lost shiny things.
One sunny day Sammy spots an old, abandoned treehouse high in an oak tree, but Hugo's short legs cannot carry him up the trunk. So the two friends divide the work, with Sammy loosening old boards and carrying them down while Hugo searches the forest floor for a rusty hammer, a box of old nails and a fallen branch for the roof. Written by Jane MEADOW, this gentle tale of patient, good-humoured effort can be read on Kids Tale Book.
