The Rabbit's Flying Library

Pip the rabbit treasures books above all else, and her small burrow overflows with tales of daring heroes and comical creatures. One bright morning, a splendid idea takes hold of her: she will create a library inside a large balloon and pilot it to the mountain, where the animals possess no books whatsoever. After days of sewing, tying and gluing, she rises into the sky in a patchwork balloon whose basket is packed with amusing stories, valiant adventures and bedtime poems, dressed in her sky-blue aviator scarf and tiny round glasses.

On the mountain, Pip encounters Grandpa Bear, a kindly old bear in a red knitted vest who assists her in securing the balloon to a pine tree, and Millie, a diminutive mouse in a polka-dot dress who yearns for amusing stories. As Pip reads aloud, squirrels, chipmunks and a timid deer draw nearer to listen, having never heard a story before. When evening falls, Hoot the Owl, a nighttime guardian in a purple librarian apron, comes to organize the shelves, and the animals collaborate to transform the balloon library into the coziest spot on the mountain.
