In a sunny meadow beside a quiet pond, Ruby, a small brown rabbit with a sky blue polka-dot scarf, and Daisy, a cheerful yellow duck with an orange bill and a little green leaf hair clip, live very different lives. One morning, Ruby hears a splash and a quack, gathers her courage, hops to the water's edge, and introduces herself. The two become friends at once, but they quickly discover that they have no idea what the other likes to do.

Ruby teaches Daisy how to hop, and Daisy waddles instead, and they both laugh. They play tag through the grass, and later Daisy invites Ruby into the pond. Ruby has never swum before and feels nervous, but Daisy shows her how to splash her paws and float on the water. Bit by bit, each friend tries something new and finds that the other's world is more fun than she expected. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW, which can be read on Kids Tale Book, shows young readers that friendship does not require two people to be alike.
