In the middle of a large green forest lives Pip, a small woodpecker with a bright red crown, black-and-white barred wings and a little acorn satchel. Pip knows every tree and every birdsong in his home and spends his mornings tapping happily on the trunks nearby. One day, close to the forest's edge, he hears a knocking that is not his own, a deep hollow tap-tap-tap coming from an old oak tree older than anyone in the woods. Curious and brave, Pip flies closer to look into the sound and the round knothole door in the trunk.

At the old oak, Pip meets Nutty, a red squirrel with a fluffy curved tail and a tiny green leaf scarf, who has also heard the mysterious knocking. Together the two new friends find a tiny voice calling from inside the tree: a little owl is trapped and cannot squeeze out through the narrow knothole. Pip and Nutty promise to help and make a plan that uses each of their strengths. This gentle tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL can be read on Masal İzle and is suited to early primary children, bedtime reading and conversations about cooperation and caring for others.
