In a tall forest, a small galago with soft grey-brown fur, huge amber eyes and a long fluffy tail wakes each evening and stretches his tiny paws. The night, with its fireflies, damp moss and sweet flowers, is his favourite time, and this evening he chooses to go farther than he ever has before. High in a tree he hears a strange soft chirring and meets a nightjar, a mottled brown and grey bird with a wide flat beak and long pointed wings. The two become friends and set out to explore the dark woods together.

The nightjar glides silently between the trees while the little galago leaps from branch to branch behind her. They pass a glittering stream and a family of mice hurrying home, and when the trees grow thicker and darker, the nightjar gently urges her small friend to keep following. She leads him through a gap in a wall of thick bushes into a hidden clearing where flowers glow with soft blue, pink and yellow light.
