When Ms. Lee gives her class an ocean project, Mia heads straight for the kelp forest by her beach. In her yellow rain boots and green backpack, she wades into the swaying seaweed and meets Pip, a sea otter that floats on its back, waves a paw and cracks open sea urchins for lunch.

Pip guides Mia through the kelp, where tiny fish, crabs and a small octopus find shelter. She notes how otters eat urchins, urchins eat kelp, and how too many urchins could strip the forest bare, seeing the otter as a kind of sea gardener. This calm, fact-based tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL follows a girl from classroom to shoreline and back, turning her notes into a poster with Pip at its center. It can be read on Masal İzle.
