Maya loves Saturdays because she wears her yellow rain boots and green volunteer apron to help Grandpa Luis at the llama sanctuary on a green hill. She knows every llama by name, from Pepper who loves carrots to Cloud who hums when happy. One Saturday, Grandpa Luis shares news: a new llama named Sunny has arrived from a busy farm, and she is very shy, standing far back in her pen with cream-white fleece and a blue halter.

Maya decides to help by drawing a plan with crayons and making enrichment activities at home: a cardboard box filled with hay and apple slices, a rope ball, and a puzzle feeder made from a muffin tray. Grandpa Luis reminds her to go slowly, speak softly, and let Sunny come to her. Day after day, Maya sits quietly, hums a soft tune, and sets out her activities. Little by little, the cautious llama steps closer, learns to nudge the tray and bump the ball, and finally eats an apple right from Maya's hand.
