Maya finally gets to visit the donkey sanctuary she has been waiting for. With an apple and a carrot in her canvas satchel, she walks down the path in her yellow rain boots and red jacket, excited to meet the animals. At the sanctuary, a helper named Rosa welcomes her and shows her around, explaining that the donkeys need a safe home, good care, and sometimes a friend. Maya listens closely, curious about everything that goes into looking after them.
In a small paddock, Maya spots Pepper, a young grey-brown donkey with a pale muzzle, a red halter, and a tiny brass bell. Even though he is healthy, Pepper seems lonely and bored, and he does not lift his head when Maya waves. Rosa teaches Maya how to brush his coat gently, fill his water bucket, check his hay and shelter, and lead him on quiet walks with a soft voice and calm steps. Maya comes back after school each day, and slowly Pepper begins to change. This tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL can be read on Masal İzle.
