In a small town with cobblestone streets, eight-year-old Lily is curious about everything around her. One sunny morning, she follows a narrow path she has never seen before and discovers a small garden behind an old stone wall. There, an ancient clock stands frozen, its hands still, and beside it sits a golden cat with shimmering fur, emerald-green eyes, and a long tail that ends in a clock-key tip. To Lily's astonishment, the cat speaks, explaining that it guards the clock and that the clock stopped long ago because its hour hand disappeared.

Lily feels sorry for the sad guardian and promises to help. Together they walk to the shop of the old clockmaker, a kindly man with white hair, round spectacles, and a drawer full of spare parts. He finds a slender golden hour hand shaped like a tiny leaf and lends Lily a small screw and a tiny screwdriver, reminding her that time is a special gift to be valued every day.
