Sophie has long dreamed of having an animal of her own, and one bright Saturday she and her mom head to the shelter. There a small ferret with creamy white fur and a dark brown mask peeks out from a soft blanket, climbs onto her arm and sniffs her freckles. Sophie knows right away that he is the one, names him Pip, fits him with a little blue harness and a brass bell, and makes him a soft bed by the bookshelf at home.
Pip is fast, curious and endlessly wiggly, and he loves exploring every corner of the house. When he darts toward a pile of loose wires near the wall one afternoon, Sophie understands that a ferret's curiosity needs more than a cozy bed. With her mom's help she builds a tunnel from a long cardboard box, lines it with a soft old towel, and hides toys inside for Pip to find. Written by Jane MEADOW, this gentle tale can be read on Kids Tale Book.
