Eight-year-old Maya makes her first visit to an animal sanctuary, excited to meet the creatures who live there and to find out how they are looked after. Before long she has made three new friends: Rosie, a fluffy dog with a wagging tail; Olive, a gentle elephant with wise eyes; and Pip, a tiny songbird with a bold chirp. With the sanctuary keeper showing her what to do, Maya starts learning the everyday tasks that keep the animals healthy and happy, from carrying heavy water buckets to spreading fresh hay and brushing Olive's rough skin.
At first Maya thinks that playing with her new friends is enough, but she soon finds out that kindness asks for more than simply being nice. When the keeper notices that her chores are not yet finished, Maya understands that caring for animals means paying attention to what they need and then doing the work. This story by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL follows a young girl learning about empathy and responsibility, and it can be read on Masal İzle. It is a warm choice for children who love animals.
