Felix is a gentle fox with warm russet-orange fur and a big fluffy tail, living deep in the green forest. Thoughtful and kind, he is often lonely, because the rabbits, squirrels and mice run away whenever he appears. He waves his tail and smiles, yet the smaller animals always scurry off, and he starts to think he is simply too big and scary to have friends.
On a rainy afternoon, Felix packs a satchel with a rope, a blanket and dry biscuits and sets out to check on his neighbours. He hears a cry from a flooded rabbit burrow and finds Rosie, a small honey-brown rabbit with a blue ribbon bow, trapped in the rising water. He pulls her to safety, wraps her in his blanket and shares his food, and the two become best friends. Not everyone approves, so Rosie and Felix plan a forest picnic to show the other animals what they have learned. This warm tale by Jane MEADOW can be read on Kids Tale Book.
