After a rain-soaked morning, Sam puts on his mustard-yellow raincoat and green rubber boots and wanders into the woods near his home. Tiny, dew-sparkling footprints lead him to a hollow log, where a soft glow reveals Pip, a forest sprite no bigger than a teacup, wearing an acorn-cap hat. Pip guards the woodland animals, and the recent storm has left many of their homes in ruins, more than he can mend by himself.
Sam offers to help, and together they set to work on the collapsed burrow of Mabel the hedgehog and the fallen nest of Ollie, a young barn owl. As more damaged shelters come to light, Sam gives his word to repair them all, and word of the effort spreads until birds, squirrels and even Mabel arrive with twigs and moss. Written by Jane MEADOW, this gentle tale of patience and small acts of care can be read on Kids Tale Book, and its quiet woodland rhythm suits bedtime reading or early talks about kindness.
