In a small village surrounded by golden fields, eight-year-old Adam lives with his mother, his father and their hardworking grey donkey. Each day the donkey hauls a heavy cart of vegetables, firewood and sacks of grain along dusty roads, and Adam watches how tired its strong legs become. Moved by what he sees, he decides the animal deserves a gentler routine with plenty of rest.

Adam shares his idea with his parents, and together the family gives it a try: fresh hay and cool water in the morning, a rest in the shade before work, and two lighter trips instead of one heavy load. Noticing the old barn is uncomfortable, Adam and his parents then build a cozy resting corner under a leafy tree. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW follows small, practical acts of care and can be read on Kids Tale Book.
