The Beaver's Birthday Boat

Benny is a cheerful beaver who lives by a river where the water runs over smooth grey stones, and he wears a red bandana wherever he goes. His birthday is coming, but instead of hoping for gifts for himself, he spends the week hidden behind a pile of driftwood, sawing and hammering away at a secret project for his friends.

What he makes is a small boat with a curved hull, a flat deck for sitting and a little striped sail, planned for a riverside picnic with baskets of berries and honey stored beneath the seats. When Benny tries to move it alone, the boat stays firmly where it is. Written by Jane MEADOW, this gentle story follows Hazel, Bramble and Pip as each lends a hand in their own way. Young readers can find the tale on Kids Tale Book.
