Sammy, an eight-year-old boy living at the edge of a golden desert, treasures maps above all else. One bright morning he encounters Zara, a curious camel with sandy golden fur, a red saddle blanket trimmed with yellow tassels, and a small brass compass around her neck. The two become friends immediately, and Sammy climbs onto Zara's back to explore the dunes together.
The desert holds many surprises. A friendly lizard explains that the wind reshapes the sand each night, so the hills on Sammy's maps are never where they once were. Sammy and Zara learn to draw new maps as they travel, trust Zara's instinct to find a hidden spring in a dry riverbed, shelter behind her humps during a sandstorm, and listen to the hum of the mysterious Singing Rock. This gentle tale by Ebru Mina TOMURCUK explores curiosity, teamwork and friendship, and can be read on Onlinemasal Com.Tr.
