The Little Wombat's Garden

In a snug bushland valley, a small wombat with soft grey-brown fur and a bright red neckerchief looks after his garden each morning. He knows every stone and stump around him and treasures the wattle blossoms, the ferns that uncurl like green springs, and the daisies he planted with his own paws. He wishes this favorite spot could stay exactly as it is forever.

One sunny morning a brown echidna in a yellow bucket hat wanders out of the bracken, new to the valley, and the two become friends. She shows him how to dig with strong claws and find grubs under logs, and he teaches her about planting. When a fierce storm arrives, they shelter together in the burrow through a night of hammering rain and creaking branches.
