Hazel is a small hedgehog with soft brown spines and a warm tan face, living in a cozy burrow under an old oak tree. She loves her woodland home and her friends, but she worries that she is the most boring hedgehog in the forest because every day feels the same. Then a letter arrives with a fancy seal: her Great-Aunt Prickle has left her one hundred unusual hats. Delighted, Hazel opens the trunk and discovers floppy sunhats, striped beanies, tiny berets, and hats with feathers, flowers, and shiny buttons. She decides to wear a different hat each day to become interesting.
Each day, Hazel wears a new hat—a purple sunhat with a daisy, a green beanie, a red beret, a top hat, a straw hat, and a knitted cap. Her friends—Bramble the rabbit, Oakley the owl, and Pip the mouse—compliment her, but they also tell her that she is wonderful with or without a hat. Hazel doesn't quite believe them, and she keeps changing hats, hoping one will make her feel special. Then a big storm blows the trunk open and scatters all hundred hats into the rainy woods. Hazel is heartbroken, but her friends rally to help her find them. As they search together, Hazel begins to notice that her friends love her for her kind heart, not her hats. This heartwarming story by Ebru Mina TOMURCUK teaches children that true friendship and kindness matter more than appearances. Young readers will learn about self-acceptance and the value of helping others. The tale is perfect for children aged 4 to 8 and for anyone who enjoys gentle stories with lovable animal characters.
