On a wet Tuesday after school, Mira puts on her yellow raincoat and red boots and goes splashing through the puddles behind the garden shed. There, in the wet grass, she finds something small and glowing: a puppy no bigger than a loaf of bread, with cream-white fur, sky-blue eyes and little star-shaped markings. Its silver collar carries a star charm, and because it twinkles, Mira names it Twinkle. She carries it home, dries it and feeds it milk and biscuit.
In the days that follow the two play in the yard and chase a red ball, and at night Twinkle glows on Mira's pillow like a night-light while she tells stories about the moon and stars. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW follows the pair as they set out through woods, across a stream and up a wildflower hill. Young readers can find the story on Kids Tale Book.
