On a warm summer evening, Maya arrives with her family at a sandy nesting beach, wearing her favorite yellow t-shirt with a green turtle print and carrying a small canvas bag. Near the dunes, she meets Rosa and Tom, sea turtle volunteers in bright vests, who show her the tracks mother turtles leave behind and explain how nests are dug, filled with about a hundred eggs, and covered again before the mother returns to the sea. Maya learns why the beach needs protection and what she can do to help.
When a family walks toward the water shining flashlights at a nest, Maya gathers her courage and politely asks them to turn the lights off, finding that speaking up is easier than she expected. Rosa makes her a junior volunteer, and Maya spends the evening greeting visitors and reminding them to keep their distance and dim their lights. As the sky darkens, she spots a tiny hatchling crawling toward the ocean and cheers it on. This gentle tale by Çınar BİBER follows one child through a single evening and can be read on Masalcı Baba.
