Mara lives on a small, windy island where the sea crashes against the rocks and puffins return each summer to nest on the cliffs. In her mustard-yellow raincoat and red pom-pom hat, she watches the birds and learns from her grandfather, Grandpa Finn, a retired fisherman who knows the island and its wildlife well. When she spots a puffin with a silver band on its leg, she names him Pip and begins following his comings and goings, filling her notebook with careful observations.
Mara grows concerned when visitors get too close to the puffins, frightening the birds and disturbing their nests. Instead of simply worrying, she decides to learn everything she can about puffin conservation, reading books from the island library and asking Grandpa Finn endless questions. Her research becomes a small guide for visitors, with simple rules about watching from a distance, staying on the path and taking litter home, illustrated with drawings of Pip and his orange beak. This gentle tale by Çınar BİBER follows her efforts as the guide spreads across the island and she shares what she has learned with other children. It can be read on Masalcı Baba.
