Maya is drawn to the hours when the world is asleep, and she slips into the forest in her mustard-yellow raincoat and green rubber boots to watch the birds that wake after dark. There she meets Olive, a grey-brown owl with golden eyes and tufted ears, who becomes her guide through the trees, pointing out a nightjar hiding in plain sight, a songbird called Finch, a bat chasing moths and a fox cub peeking from the ferns. Maya learns to listen, to look closely and to write down what she sees.

The mood shifts when an unhappy squeak leads Maya and Olive to a family of raccoons whose old log home has been removed for a new path. Olive explains that wildlife needs safe places to sleep, eat and raise their young, and Finch reminds Maya that she is good at writing things down. Maya turns her notebook into a woodland guide for children, then shares it with her town through posters, a class talk and a nature walk. This gentle tale by Çınar BİBER can be read on Masalcı Baba.
