Maya spends every day in her garden, wearing her yellow rain boots and red dungarees. One morning she finds a tiny hedgehog near the rose bushes, no bigger than a grapefruit, and names it Pip. When Pip slips under the garden gate and vanishes, Maya starts to wonder how such a small creature travels from one garden to the next. Her neighbour Mr. Okafor, a kind man with round glasses and secateurs always in his pocket, explains that hedgehogs need safe pathways between gardens to find food and friends.
Maya joins forces with her new friend Lily, and the two girls visit their neighbours to suggest cutting small openings at the bottom of fences. Some neighbours hesitate at first, but the girls' enthusiasm gradually wins them over, and the whole street gives a weekend to snipping gaps, planting seeds and painting signs for a Hedgehog Highway. The tale, written by Çınar BİBER, follows Maya as she discovers that small actions can make a big difference for wildlife and for people too. It can be read on Masalcı Baba.
