Mira arrives by bus at the edge of the desert to stay with her grandmother, Nadia, and steps into a wide expanse of golden sand. Curious and never without her notebook, she begins to wonder which animals could possibly endure such heat. One evening she notices a small fox with very large ears standing in the moonlight, and in the days that follow the fennec fox becomes a quiet companion she sketches, follows from a respectful distance and observes with growing interest.
When Nadia explains that the fox's oversized ears help it release heat and stay cool, Mira decides to test the idea herself. Using cardboard, foil, cotton balls and a small fan, she builds a model of the fox's head and compares how a foil-covered ear and a plain ear give off warmth. Her experiment becomes a way to share what she has learned with the neighbors, while her patient waiting near the burrow slowly turns curiosity into an unexpected friendship.
