Lila, a curious girl in yellow rain boots and blue overalls, always carries a notebook and pencil for adventures. One morning by the sparkling river, she meets a crystal otter with fur like pale blue glass and silver whiskers that catch the light. Naming the otter Sparkle, Lila is led through ferns and under a fallen log to a hidden river sanctuary filled with clear water, colorful fish, stained-glass dragonflies, and flowers of every color. The two become best friends, spending afternoons racing sticks, skipping stones, and drawing pictures together.
Their routine is interrupted when Lila spots a plastic bag in the water and Sparkle becomes tangled in it. Following the river upstream, they find cans, wrappers, and a broken bottle, and Lila realizes the sanctuary is getting dirty. She turns to Grandpa Finn, a tall bearded fisherman who tells her the river needs protectors. Together they clean the banks, and Lila draws a sign asking everyone to keep the river clean. She then invites her friends to see the sanctuary and join her in caring for it. This gentle tale by Ebru Mina TOMURCUK shows how noticing a problem and asking for help can make a difference.
