Eight-year-old Maya spends her days exploring the backyard with a nature journal and colored pencils. When she comes across a patch of bare dirt, her grandmother Rosa proposes planting a garden for butterflies. Together they select native flowers, including purple coneflowers, orange butterfly weed and yellow black-eyed Susans, chosen because they feed butterflies and offer a safe place for them to lay eggs. Grandma Rosa reminds Maya that nature takes its time, so Maya waters the seedlings and records their growth day after day.
When the first orange bloom opens, a monarch butterfly settles on it, and Maya names him Pip. Across spring and summer she sketches Pip and other butterflies, noting which flowers they visit most and learning how native plants and local butterflies support one another. A neighbor who grows only roses and never sees butterflies is surprised by what Maya explains, and Maya shares her collected seeds with friends at school. Written by Çınar BİBER, this warm story about patience and observation can be read on Masalcı Baba.
