Maya, an eight-year-old in a yellow jacket and red sneakers, visits an animal museum where a kind guide named Mr. Okafor shows her models of a polar bear, a tiger and a sea turtle. Learning that turtles mistake plastic bags for food and that many species are endangered, she wants to help but worries she is too young to make a difference. Her mother's reassurance that small actions matter plants an idea that grows into something bigger than she expected.
Back at school, Maya announces her plan to build an animal museum of her own. With her teacher Ms. Chen's support, she becomes the curator and gathers a team: Priya, who draws posters of endangered species, and Sam, who builds clay models of a sea turtle, a snow leopard and a gorilla. Classmates contribute drawings, fact cards and stories about protecting habitats, and when the workload becomes overwhelming, Maya learns to ask for help and to rely on teamwork.
