Kito, an eight-year-old boy living in a small village at the edge of a rainforest, loves to explore and keeps a notebook in his pocket wherever he goes. When his teacher Ms. Leah assigns a class project about the rainforest, Kito heads into the forest paths hoping to find something truly wonderful to share with his classmates.
What he finds is a sun bear climbing a tree and licking honey from a hollow branch. Kito sketches the small black bear with its golden chest patch, long curved claws and long pink tongue, and writes down everything he observes. With encouragement from his mother and his teacher, he turns his notes into a classroom exhibit about how sun bears climb and find food.
