Nine-year-old Adam spends his Saturday mornings at the animal rescue center on Maple Street, a place he knows for the scent of hay and the soft noises of animals stirring. When a rainy Saturday brings a special task from Mrs. Hale, the center's patient keeper, Adam meets a weary homing pigeon found in a parking lot. The bird has slate grey feathers, two dark wing bars, a bright orange eye, and a small white band on one coral pink leg. Adam names him Blue and begins learning to move slowly, speak softly, and offer seeds and fresh water without causing alarm.

Week by week, Adam feeds Blue, cleans the cage, and reads aloud beside him while the pigeon puffs his chest and shuts his eye. Mrs. Hale explains that homing pigeons can return from hundreds of miles away, guided by the sun, the stars, and the earth's magnetic field. Inspired, Adam turns this into a school project, drawing Blue and writing about navigation and rescue birds. With his teacher Ms. Okafor's support, he shares his poster with the class. Jane MEADOW tells this gentle story of curiosity and responsibility, and it can be read on Kids Tale Book.
